South Africa is one of Africa’s most exciting countries. It has an interesting mix of Europe, Africa and Asia. Some of the challenges South Africa faces is to reduce poverty and injustice, to consolidate democracy and promote respect for human rights. The landscape is as diverse as the cultural characteristics, aptly named the “Rainbow Nation”. South Africa provides the excitement of Africa with the luxury of the “first world”.

When you are free from your volunteer work there are exciting things to see and do. Here are a few examples:
Nature/National parks/Safari
Krugerpark
The National Park is perhaps the most famous in South Africa with amazing safari that gives you the opportunity to see the Big Five – lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo and leopard. In the Kruger Park’s southern parts, there are hot springs where you can bathe.
Garden route
Go along the classic Garden Route and experience the lakes, forests, wetlands, wildlife and stunning beaches. This is for those who like nature, sun, swimming, adventure and golf.
Dragon mountains
Dragon mountains is South Africa highest and extend in a chain Longitudinal 20 mil. The highest peaks are over 3,000 meters and offers exciting hikes. Also visit the caves in Giant’s Castel Game Reserve or stop in the Royal Natal National Park where you can see the waterfall Tugela Falls which is 850 meters high.
Cape town
The capital offers everything from sightseeing to shopping and beaches. Visit the Victorian harbor where there is a large variety of restaurants, cafes, bars and shopping. You can also go up to the top of Table Mountain who gives you a stunning view of the city or to the Cape of Good Hope which is the southernmost point in all Africa.
Sun & sea
The best sun and sea opportunities are on South Africa’s east coast, here you will bathe in the Indian oceans tropical water. There are beautiful beaches along the east coast but here the circumstances are less bathe friendly with cold water and strong currents. In these waters you have the opportunity to dive and surf, near Cape Town you can go diving with sharks!

Offers everything from tourist’s attractions, shopping to beach life.
Take a trip to the Victorian harbor there it is many restaurants, cafés, bars and shopping.
You can also go to the peak of Table Mountain that will give you a spectacular view over the city, or go to Cape of Good Hope that is the southernmost point in whole Africa.
Johannesburg
The city is South Africa´s largest and is a good starting point if you have planes to travel in the north part of the country. Johannesburg abounds of culture and there are many museums, theatre, exciting blocks and music to see and listen to.
Weather
South Africa has a pleasant climate with warmth year around. The seasons are reverse from Sweden, which means it is winter between July – September and summer from the end of November to March.
